A Few Things To Do In NYC

Brooklyn Botanical Gardens

Rare plants, flowers, and meticulously cared for gardens and amazing architecture define the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. World famous Cherry Blossom Esplanade, Japanese and Rose Gardens are located at this beautiful Brooklyn Landmark. It’s a great place to get away from the city for a few hours while still remaining in the heart of it.

Central Park

Central Park is the nation’s first major urban public space. This Manhattan park attracts 25 million visitors every year and covers843 acres of land. The park was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1963. Central Park has incredible appeal, and the odds are you can name several movie scenes that take place in the park. It opened in the mid-1800s and offers photo tours, music festivals, incredible views and fun dining experiences, Central Park is “The Heart of the City.”

Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Met Fifth Avenue, The Met Breuer, and The Met Cloisters make up the various museums. The Met Rooftop Bar and Garden has sweeping views of Central Park and beyond that can be enjoyed with wine, cocktails, and light bites—the scenery and the special atmosphere make it well-worth a trip.

Grand Central Terminal

Grand Central is not only the world’s largest (76 acres) and the nation’s busiest railway station—nearly 700,000 commuters and subway riders use it daily—but also one of the world’s most magnificent, majestic public spaces. Beautiful chandeliers and an expansive waiting room are part of the inspiring main concourse, 200 feet long, 120 feet wide, and 120 feet high, modeled after an ancient Roman public bath.

American Museum of Natural History

The American Museum of Natural History, located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City, is one of the largest museums in the world. It’s really big. Located in park-like grounds across the street from Central Park, there are 28 interconnected buildings housing 45 permanent exhibition halls, in addition to a planetarium and a library. The museum collections contain over 130 million specimens of plants, humans, animals, fossils, minerals, rocks, meteorites, and human cultural artifacts, of which only a small fraction can be displayed at any given time, and occupies more than 2,000,000 square feet.

Brooklyn Bridge

One of many signature landmarks of New York City and another of New York’s movie scene stealers, the Brooklyn Bridge is also one of the oldest suspension bridges in the country. Its six-lanes (and one pedestrian and bicycle walkway) span the East River, connecting Manhattan to Brooklyn. Walking across the bridge remains a tourist pastime and it’s a great free trip and unique way to view New York.

Ellis Island

For 62 years, this was the United States’ main immigration entry point and many U.S. citizens have at least one ancestor who passed through here. You can just glimpse Ellis Island when you stand on the shores of Battery Park in Lower Manhattan. But to truly appreciate this historic site you’ll have to take one of the Statue Cruises ferries over for a visit.

The island has a Main Building with the Immigration Museum inside. Stop by the “Treasures from Home” exhibit to peruse some of the family heirlooms and keepsakes that immigrants brought over on their journey. You can also do a look into your own family tree at the American Family Immigration History Center.
